About us
How it began
Windows Music Academy was launched in 2020 as a Community Interest Company. Originally located within the iconic music retailer J G Windows, it has provided professional musical instrument tuition for the people of the North East for 5 years. Following the closure of the store, a new home has been found in Newcastle City Centre at St Andrew's church, Gallowgate, where we continue to offer lessons to both complete beginners and aspiring players.Â
Music for everyone
"Music for everyone" was the motto at JG Windows Ltd., and we continue to hold the same sentiment at Windows Music Academy.

In 2026, the Academy was awarded charitable status. This will allow us to expand our work within the community and reach out to partners.
Â
We plan to engage with children who might not otherwise have access to musical instruments and tuition.  We intend to offer free and subsidised music lessons to children who are infant and junior school age, from disadvantaged neighbourhoods in and around Newcastle. Where appropriate, we would provide free instruments for this target group through an instrument donation and refurbishment scheme. We also intend to run music workshops, partnering with schools, youth clubs and other community-based organisations.

Playing music offers so much more than just learning a skill. It boosts confidence and mental health, social skills and academic achievement. We will support as many people as we can to take their first steps to becoming a musician.Â
How to find us
We are based inside the parish church of St Andrew, Newgate Street, NE1 5SS.
